เสียงของเจมส์ เอิร์ล โจนส์ เป็นที่รู้จักของผู้ชมทุกวัย โดยแฟนๆ Star Wars จะรู้จักเขาในฐานะเสียงของดาร์ธ เวเดอร์ ส่วนเด็กๆ จะรู้จักเขาในบทมูฟาซาจากภาพยนตร์ของดิสนีย์เรื่อง The Lion King และผู้ที่ใช้บริการของโทรศัพท์เวอริซัน ก็รู้จักเสียงของเขาจากการที่เขาเป็นโฆษกให้สินค้าชิ้นนี้มานานหลายปี เมื่อฟังเสียงของเขาแล้ว คงไม่มีใครคาดคิดว่า สมัยเด็กๆ เขาแทบไม่พูดไม่จาอะไรเลยเพราะปัญหาในการพูดติดอ่างของเขา แต่ด้วยความช่วยเหลือจากครูสมัยไฮสคูลคนหนึ่ง โจนส์ก็แก้ไขอาการติดอ่างของตัวเองได้และเปลี่ยนจุดอ่อนของเขาให้เป็นจุดแข็งที่สุดไป
