:: ประวัติย่อ :: แมทท์ ดิลลอน เริ่มมีชื่อเสียง และเป็นขวัญใจวัยรุ่น จากการเป็นนายแบบในนิตยสารวัยรุ่นอย่าง Tiger Beat และ Sixteen อยู่เนือง ๆ จนเป็นภาพลักษณ์ติดตัวอยู่นาน แต่เขาก็สามารถสลัดภาพความเป็นดาราวัยรุ่น สู่ภาพลักษณ์ใหม่ ในฐานะนักแสดงที่มีความเป็นผู้ใหญ่เต็มตัว และเหมาะสมกับบทตัวละครที่เลยช่วงชีวิตวัยรุ่นมาแล้ว และได้ผ่านร้อนผ่านหนาวกับชีวิตผู้ใหญ่มาพอสมควร
แมทท์ ดิลลอน พ่อของเขาเป็นนักค้าหุ้น ส่วนแม่เป็นแม่บ้าน เขาเป็นลูกคนที่ 2 จากจำนวนทั้งหมด 6 คน แมทท์ เริ่มคลุกคลีกับการแสดงตั้งแต่สมัยเรียนชั้นประถม พออายุ 14 ปี แมวมองจาก วอร์เนอร์ บรอส ได้มาพบเขา ตอนที่ไปทดสอบหน้ากล้อง เขาสร้างความประทับใจให้กับผู้อำนวยการคัดเลือกตัวนักแสดง คือ วิค รามอส อย่างมาก เพราะเขาแสดงบทในการทดสอบครั้งนั้นได้ตรงกับลักษณะตัวละครอย่างเหลือเชื่อ จนส่งผลให้เขาได้แสดงหนังเป็นครั้งแรก ในบทนักเรียนตัวแสบ ในหนังวัยรุ่นแนวดราม่าของ โจนาธาน คาแพลน เรื่อง Over the Edge บทบาทของเขาในหนังเรื่องนี้ ทำให้เขาได้รับงานแสดงในหนังวัยรุ่นคล้าย ๆ กันนี้อีกมากมาย ในช่วง 2-3 ปีต่อมา เขาได้กลายเป็นกระบอกเสียงประกาศความคับข้องใจต่าง ๆ ของหนุ่มสาววัยรุ่น ในหนังเรื่องแล้วเรื่องเล่า เช่น My Bodyguard (1980), Little Darlings (1980), Tex (1982), Rumble Fish (1983) ตลอดจนเรื่องราวชีวิตวัยรุ่นที่แปลกแยกจากสังคม ในหนังเรื่อง The Outsiders (1983) ที่มีอิทธิพลต่อความคิดวัยรุ่นอย่างมาก
พอมาถึงกลางช่วงทศวรรษ 80 เขาพยายามฉีกตัวจากบทวัยรุ่น มาเล่นบทผู้ใหญ่ให้มากขึ้น จนสามารถทิ้งคราบความเป็นดาราวัยรุ่นได้อย่างสมบูรณ์ ในหนังดังของ กัส แวง แซง เรื่อง Drugstore Cowboy (1989) ซึ่งเขารับบทเป็นหนุ่มขี้ยาที่พยายามจะเลิกเสพย์ยา หลังจากนั้น เขาแสดงนำในหนังหลากหลายเรื่อง โดยมีผลงานที่ควรค่าแก่การจดจำ ในเรื่อง Singles (1992), To Die For (1995) ที่แสดงคู่กับ นิโคล คิดแมน, Albino Alligator (1995) ของ เควิน สเปซีย์, และ Beautiful Girls (1996) ที่ทำให้เขาได้พบรักกับ คาเมรอน ดีแอซ และควงกันอยู่ได้ประมาณ 3 ปี ก่อนจะเลิกรากันไป
ในปี 1998 แมทท์ ดิลลอน รับบทสำคัญในหนังดังของฮอลลีวูดถึง 2 เรื่อง คือ There’s Something About Mary ที่เป็นหนังยอดนิยมที่สุดประจำปีนั้นเลยทีเดียว และอีกเรื่องคือ Wild Things ที่เขาแสดงเป็นอาจารย์ที่ปรึกษาที่ขาดคุณสมบัติอย่างไม่น่าให้อภัย ในโรงเรียนไฮสคูลแห่งหนึ่ง
ในปี 2001 นี้ เขามาในบทหนุ่มบาร์เทนเดอร์ หนึ่งในสามหนุ่ม ที่พร่ำเพ้อถึงหญิงสาวผู้หยาดเยิ้มคนหนึ่ง อย่างลืมหูลืมตาไม่ขึ้น ใน One Night at McCool’s
