:: ประวัติย่อ :: ฟิลลิป กลาส เป็นหนึ่งในบรรดาผู้เริ่มคิดค้นงานเพลงสมัยใหม่ เกิดใน บัลติมอร์, แมรี่แลนด์, เขาได้เริ่มต้นฝึกเรียนดนตรีตอนอายุ 6 ขวบและเรียนฟลุตตอน 8 ขวบ ต่อมาเขาได้เข้าเรียนที่ University of Chicago ตอนอายุ 15 ด้วยความมุ่งมั่นที่จะเป็นผู้ประพันธ์เพลง เขาได้ย้ายไปนิวยอร์คหลังจากได้เข้าเรียนและจบการ ศึกษาจาก Julliard School เมื่ออายุ 23 เขาได้ย้ายไปปารีสและใช้เวลา 2 ปี ในการเรียนหลักสูตรเร่งลัดกับนาเดีย บูแลงเกอร์ ในปารีส, กลาสได้ถูกว่าจ้างให้ถอดเพลงอินเดียของราวิ แชนการ์ให้เป็นโน้ตเพลงตะวันตก และเมื่อเขากลับไปนิวยอร์คเขาก็เริ่มนำเทคนิคตะวันออกมาใช้ในงานเพลงของเขา
