แกรี่ให้ความสนใจเป็นพิเศษกับการแสดง เขารักโรงละครและครูที่สอนการแสดงให้กับเขา บาร์บาร่า แพตเทอร์สัน

แกรี่ แต่งงานกับ มอยร่า แฮร์ริส ในปี 1981 และมีบุตรด้วยกัน 3 คน คือ โซเฟีย , แม็กแคนน่า และเอลน่า

แกรี่ได้รับรางวัลชนะเลิศเอ็มมี่ ในฐานะนักแสดงนำชายที่โดดเด่นใน มินิซีรีส์ จอร์จ วอลเลซ
แกรี่เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 17 มีนาคม 1955 และเขาได้แสดงในภาพยนตร์เรื่อง อพอลโล 13 ในปี 1955 ซึ่งเขาเล่นเป็นนักบินยานอพอลโล 13 ที่ชื่อเคน แมททิงลี่ ซึ่งเกิดวันที่ 17 มีนาคม 1936
